I want to cover, but…
How many of us have heard a sister say this? Or perhaps we have said this ourselves?? I think one of the hardest things in the world is to go against a conviction. It grieves a person to their very soul. And how many of us did that when first convicted on covering our hair?? I know I did! So, here at the AHW, where I looooove to encourage women who are interested in covering, I want to share my head covering necessities! Yes, the bare minimum to get you started. I’ll also be putting alternative ideas in case Amazon is a no fly zone for you. Girl, I got you covered! No excuses!

This volumizing scrunchie is a game changer! If you can’t afford a volumizer (they can cost an upwards of $40…) this $7 scrunchie will give you poof without giving you overdraft fees.
A cotton crinkle hijab/tichel/scarf/wrap is THE BEST THING EVAH!! Seriously, it’s light enough for the summer and gives full coverage no matter what season you’re in. It’s a super soft fabric and you can do just about any style with it. Amazon sells them, and so does modestgirlz.com, hooriyahs.com, and culturehijab.com You can find them for cheap on these three sites with little or no shipping costs!
Get you some elastic hair ties. Seriously. Your hair will thank you later. You can buy these for cheap at Dollar Tree, or you can order them here on Amazon. Also found at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.
And since we are on the topic of hair care, “hijab hair” is a real thing. Especially if you cover full time. I reviewed this product for Influenster not too long ago. You can see that here. It will save your hair and even though you are covering, don’t neglect those tresses!!
These little pins will keep your scarf in place through wind, rain, and naps. I use one or two to secure my style and they do very little damage to even the most delicate of fabrics. Way better than safety pins!!
Get yourself a good quality COTTON underscore. It will protect your hair, keep your wrap in place, and if you don’t want to expose your hairline it will keep that in line, too.
A velvet headband will keep any scarf style from slipping. Especially if you have a lot of hair that’s heavy or you wear a lot of poof. This will keep your wrap looking fresh all day!
Some places to check out for underscarves and velvet headbands is the wish app. They are coming from China and it will take a few weeks to arrive, but I’ve ordered these items on there in the past and have been pretty pleased with the results. CultureHijab.com has $5 underscarves AND FREE SHIPPING to the United States. And check out their clearance section! And don’t forget to check out your local thrift shops and goodwills for beautiful scarves!!
Alright, ladies. So, if you’re convicted to cover, all you need is roughly 30 bucks and you can get started with a beautiful cover. No excuses!
